Party Animals (Patriotic Memories)
“Party Animals” is a complement to the series “Patriotic Memories”.
These photos show some of my friends partying in my house. The glass stones used to cover their heads constitute a photographic artifact ; through it i explore (one more time) a memory out of a night where things tend to go out of control, out of consciouness and out of this memory itself as well. What can be “saved” in the end is a creation, but a deformation of faces as well as their expressions ; some of them turns out to be funny, others can be monstruous. This deformation is a relevant element in the process of making a sort of “lollapalooza” out of some old ordinary souvenir photographs. It is also a way to show a very accentuated imagery of my friends’ state that night, which surpasses the representation of the original documents.
In other words, these glass stones are visual complements to the camera lens ; they represent what could be beyond some souvenirs captured on film through that lens. They are some sort of interferences that communicate my own vision looking back at this event, in order to revive the excitement once considered lost, and which is more important than the event itself or the people in it.
